Judy Thompson
Director of The Growing Place
I am the Director and Clinical Supervisor for The Growing Place, a counseling ministry of NC. I have been involved with the counseling center for about twenty years - as a volunteer, providing ministry, counseling and life skills training for women in recovery coming from jail or prison, as a lay-biblical counselor, and finally as a trainee, intern and licensed marriage and family therapist.
In 2004, God laid it on my heart to facilitate in the counseling ministry at Neighborhood Church. I wrote out the plan for the center that God had given and shortly after I was approved as the director/administrator of the counseling center.
Since that time, I have moved off campus and into private practice, developed and taught a lay-biblical counseling program, completed the requirements to be a licensing supervisor and added three wonderful professional licensing interns to the staff at The Growing Place. They are: Lori Salberg (newly licensed LCSW), Rebecca Eckert, IMFT, and Tamsen Herrick, IMFT. Four volunteer certified Biblical Counselors and a certified Life Coach have also joined the staff.
In partnership with Tamsen, we have trained the counseling staff and the biblical counseling students in Theophostic Prayer, an effective treatment for trauma and unresolved pain in peoples' lives. I hold weekly and bi-weekly clinical supervision at the counseling center for all center staff.

Interesting Facts
- The Growing Place (formerly the Tandem House) was established at Neighborhood about thirty years ago.
- At that time Leo Classen and several others saw clients whereever they could find space.
- (Once they even had an office in the pup house, and then at the house at the back of the property, then in the three little "huts," and finally a real home.) In 2008 we acquired the mobile house at the north end of the parking lot. What an incredible blessing. With hours of loving labor by many people, and many donations, we have a beautiful home. Come see us. We have five offices, a meeting room, family room, kitchen, two restrooms, and a lovely entry area . . . we are so blessed !
