Tom Mount

Tom Mount

As Executive Pastor, Tom is a member of the ministerial staff and the Neighborhood Church Leadership Team. His time is typically spent in normal pastoral functions such as teaching, preaching, counseling, mentoring, study, prayer, coordinating ministries, evangelizing the unchurched and shepherding those who call Neighborhood their home.

But his primary function is to support our Senior Pastor, Larry Lane and help execute his vision. Toward that end, He has two main areas of responsibility.

Staff Development.

Tom oversees the personal and professional development of the ministerial staff. He arranges for staff training events, leads the weekly Staff Leadership Team (SLT) and Staff meetings, and has direct supervisoral responsibility for two members of our senior staff: Andrew Burchett (Student Ministries), and Richard Shaffer (Community Building). Tom loves this part of his job. He writes: “Working with such a talented and godly group of men and women is a privilege and joy! The staff are more than colleagues to me; they are family.”

Adult Spiritual Formation.

Tom is responsible for designing and overseeing a comprehensive program for adult discipleship. The program is now in its early stages of development and currently relies primarily on our Spiritual Formation classes offered Sunday mornings prior to our weekly Worship Gatherings. In addition to teaching regular classes, he oversees and writes much of the curriculum, coordinates the other instructors, and provides personal spiritual direction for individuals. Because of his passion to help others grow into mature, effective disciples, this is a natural fit with his passions.

BIO

Tom Mount, our Executive Pastor, joined the Neighborhood Church staff in February 2001. Prior to that, he was the Senior Pastor of Valley Community Church for ten years.

Raised in an atheist home, Tom came to know Christ during his freshman year in college through another student-athlete. Soon after, he sensed a call to vocational ministry.
